New study examines the patterns of admission of long-term care facilities among adults with IDD across key factors. Results showed that a greater proportion of adults with IDD were admitted to long-term care over a four year period compared to the general population. Being once frail does not mean being always frail when it comes to individuals with IDD. A secondary analysis of 2,893 individuals with IDD receiving community-based home care services in Ontario was conducted. It was found that although baseline frailty status was a significant predictor or worsening/death, stability and improvement can occur. See the full study for more details here: bit.ly/2iAQsev

H-CARDD Aging Project study compared the use of home care services in Ontario among adults with and without IDD over time. Although both groups received similar types of home care services, adults with IDD had much higher rates of admission to home care and at much earlier ages.
