March 2016 Aging Report

A 3-year Aging project funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-term Care Health Services Research Fund through HCARDD was recently completed. This project examined the size of the aging population with IDD, frailty, and use of aging care services. Read the project report here.

Frailty Index Webinar

On February 24, 2016, MAPS researchers Hélène Ouellette-Kuntz,  Lynn Martin, and Katherine McKenzie presented an interactive webinar entitled “From research to practice: Implementing a frailty measure for older adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities”. Over 100 participants from across Canada participated. The webinar is now available online https://youtu.be/HZP4xtGBt0E.

Future Study – Changes in Services and Frailty

MAPS Researchers Lynn Martin and Hélène Ouellette-Kuntz receive funding from MCSS to study the evolving support needs of adults with IDD as they age in the community. Using population-level, they will examine changes in frailty and service use among home care recipients with IDD over time, and the extent to which these are different by place of residence (i.e., at home vs. group home setting).

Identifying PDP Values

MAPS researchers worked with person-directed planning teams  using a participatory action research approach. Together, we identified how the right people with the right attitudes engaging in the right actions helped four adults with IDD achieve their goals. Project funded by MCSS.
