Research
MAPS will develop a toolkit of surveys and other data gathering methods that will allow the Ministry of Community and Social Services and developmental service agencies to use standardized approaches to collecting information on indicators of provider and system performance. This toolkit will make it possible to measure efforts to enhance social Inclusion, choice and independence.
Our research approach consist of four phases: (1) a thorough review of the National Core Indicators (a system of gathering information used in the USA), (2) research to clarify concepts of social inclusion, choice and independence and develop conceptual models, (3) studies applying select indicators, and (4) recommendation of select indicators for an ongoing Multidimensional Assessment of Providers and Systems.
Research activities, which will all inform the selection of indicators, are grouped within the following projects:
- Parents Seeking Adult Developmental Services for Their Children: A Provincial Study
- Reaching a Consensus on the Definition of Social Inclusion
- Identifying Indicators of Quality related to Person-Centred or Person-Directed Planning
- Understanding the role and practices of staff in promoting greater social inclusion, choice, and independence
- Maximizing social inclusion, choice and independence through productivity options
